When a Secretary of State is named, which State is that person then the Secretary of ? (I would nominate Colorado since it's right in the center of the country, or maybe Delaware, I hear it is nice there).
The State Department, which state is it affiliated with? Texas? Alaska ?
In the movie "Enemy of the State", featuring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, did they ever spell out which state specifically has made Smith's character into an enemy ?
When one of our officials makes claims about how to handle "rogue states", are they talking about states in the US of A?
These might sound like silly questions, but it seems clear to me that in these contexts above, "State" specifically refers to a national government.
Why should anyone care ?
I'm looking at this case and it sure looks like the definition of the word "State" could be pretty important.
